Make the transition from Spring to Summer with a Leather Jacket
Posted by Pierotucci in New Leather Jacket line on May 16, 2012
March comes in like a lamb but goes out like a lion, April brings on cold showers and May is straddling winter temps and summer sunshine all the while puffing pollen and other sneeze causing things in the air. There is no rule of thumb on how to dress in mid season except maybe …. make it flexible. Last week in Tuscany everyone was working on a “cambia di armadio” which may sound rather intimidating but it actually just means switching their winter wardrobe for their summer attire. And for some people this can be quite a daunting task (my colleague at work takes a week off just to get it right – but then she uses her spare bedroom as a walk-in closet.) For others this could mean just making sure the wool sweaters get some lavender perfumed slips to keep the moths away.
The trick to the transition is always leave something warm to cover those unexpected temp drops from tropical to Siberia. Last week I was cutting the lawn in shorts and a halter top and this week its been so chilly I have had to sleep in my pile PJs to keep warm! One just wants to scream where is the logic here!! So the obvious choice here is the leather jacket addition which works well in all temps and provides a distinctive fashion statement. Here are a couple of my favorites:

Sometimes its the color or texture of the leather that makes a statement, like this distressed leather Jacket from Michael Kors. Reminds me of the Campomaggi look: rustic and sophisticated all at the same time.
I am always a little bit nervous about wearing a suede leather jacket – however you can not deny that when it is smooth and soft, its a pure delight to run your hand over a suede leather jacket.

Probably the easiest look to get away with is a cropped leather jacket – like the collarless version above in beige nappa leather with contrasting tobacco trim or the classic all black designer leather jacket for women with a dual collar.
One size Leather Jacket does not fit all

and why should it? A luxury item like a designer Italian leather jacket should always be a perfect fit. Our experience in Florence and with our online shop is that each geographic location hosts distinct differences not just in styles and colors which are pleasing or hot – but also in fundamental body shapes. So though everyone may just adore a cut when seen on super model Vanessa Williams, the hard facts are that the cut is not suited for every body and nationality.
Our designer recognizes this fact and has taken our 2012 Leather Jacket Collection one step closer to satisfying you and you and you and even you! He evaluated the possibilities of new models by calculating how many in our leather jacket collection were for the petite cuts as well as the full figure or plus size – and he did this for both mens’ and womens’ designer jackets.
Its highly frustrating when searching out the “perfect” item, but always seeing it displayed on someone else’s “perfect” body shape and to answer this demand, he took our collection to the next level. The standard leather jacket sizes are always available – however they have been selected with styles which can accommodated everyone’s taste and size no matter how many inches more or less.
What’s the major difficulty that one runs into when fitting leather a jacket to a client? Well, most people have a size fixed in there mind (for example in the States I am size 12 however in Italy I average more like a 46 … OK sometimes its even a 48 … but if I were in Japan I’d be a 17). However, what is important to realize is that hand made leather jackets from Italy are cut and then assembled individually – its not a production line concept. What does this mean? – It means that it is more important that a potential shopper look at the cm or inch measurements next to the models then it is the standard sizes. These measurements on a leather jacket are much more accurate and will more likely assure the shopper of a perfect fit. When looking for perfection, have your body measurements handy and if possible, even the measurements of another jacket that fits you well. Thought not seen here another good measurement to have is right around the waist – going directly over the belly button, especially if you are looking for an hour glass shape to the jacket.
When buying your designer leather jacket on line, don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions. You need to remember the photographer takes the photos to show the jacket at its best, but this doesn’t always mean that the shots show a jacket in all of its sizes. Ask them to send you a live shot of the jacket, so you can see a real person (and if possible have them match your body measurements) so you can get a “real” look at your new purchase.
If you send your height and body measurements, Pierotucci.com will find a similar model (in house of course) and then send you a photo of the jacket, so you can truly appreciate the end results and save lots of time and money by getting the best fit first time around.
In the end, its really not about making the jacket look good – but about making you look good in the jacket.
Either way you wear it, this jacket comes up smelling like

Italian leather and that is absolutely “delizioso”! I adored this jacket when we had it in a dark gray, but now that we are showing it in our 2012 Collection with this new color, I have fallen in love with it all over again. I always thought that the duster style jacket appeared to be romantic with a twist of intrigue!
I feel in love with this reversible leather jacket the moment I saw it on the hanger. Besides the fact that it is handmade in Florence Italy by seasoned experts, there are four precise reasons:
1) I love the neutral color which will look great with jeans, dress pants or with a splash of color in the form of a silk scarf or leather gloves. With everyone watching their budget more carefully, looking to invest in luxury items like leather jackets only when they can justify the costs, its obvious that the purchase needs to match up with more than one skirt, pair of pants or silk blouse. Color is important and neutrals colors last a lifetime.
2) The soft sweet feel of lambskin leather feels so delicious inside and out! This Italian tanned leather speaks volumes and its lightweight compliments the soft folds that fall at the unusual length. The quality of the leather exalts the unique design with a velvety suede on one side, accented with nappa lambskin in the same color and turn it around to enjoy the buttery feel of nappa lambskin.
3) This jacket will go everywhere and always have you stand out in the crowd. Rushing off to the office, meeting the girls to go shopping, happy hour with your friends or a night on the town with someone special – this reversible jacket gives you every opportunity to use it to the max. It’s simple, reminiscent of a duster style jacket and eases itself into every type of social situation as if it was always meant to be just and only there.
4) I appreciate quality where I find it, and this hand cut and hand sewn leather jacket is all about quality. Besides the obvious fact that the lambskin leather is top, you can dig just a little deeper and note the excellent cut, how the seamstress matched all the different panels to the same shade or the careful top stitching or even the contrasting nappa accents and the covered suede buttons. As the Italians would say “Qualità al visto occhio” that is the quality is evident to the naked eye.
And survey says

We are always looking for feedback on any new arrivals, sometimes you get so excited about a model, cut or color that you saw in January and when it finally comes into stock, you have lost some of the original enthusiasm. We started planning our 2012 collection Dec / Jan, and it seems as soon as it went live that this washed tobacco colored Italian leather was striking a cord internationally. Since this jacket has become part of our 2012 Collection, it has been getting top ratings from our Florence store shoppers. Have a look … what’s your take on the jacket?
When it first came in, we thought the color was just a bit too … loud – but it has begun to grow on us. Perhaps the aspect that I like about this jacket the most is the detailed stitching on the front, adding a little bit of movement and defining the figure. I also really like the buckled tabs on the back, which accent the slim fit of this jacket. This is not a bulky motorcycle leather jacket but rather, an addition to “his” wardrobe that is designed to catch a little bit of attention.
What are your thoughts on this cut and color?

What would I wear for the 1° day of Spring?

Well if only the temps were a little more friendly, you would find me following the tradition of Skirt Day and going bare legged with sandals and a flowing skirt around my knees (years ago it would have been a bit higher
but since I woke up to 8°C this morning, I will have to let my daydreaming extend to internet, Polyvore and Pinterest. And the man in my life, well . . . in doors with the heater on max and in front of a roaring fire I can show-off all the skirts he likes!

And the green grass grows all around
Posted by Pierotucci in Italian Traditions and Culture on March 16, 2012
Just a little bit of water and sun to make the green grass grow all around as well as the flowers and all of my aromatic plants. Springtime in the countryside is synonymous with color and perfumes. What really got me thinking of sun and water is that last weekend I watered my chives (or the brown stubs of what was left of my chives) and this afternoon I noticed new green shoots coming up…look out baked potatoes!! What I always found fun living in Italy, is that each season brings with it’s own personal menu. In Tuscany you begin to see agreti, fresh basil, fave and baby red onions in the market at this time and they all have their own specialties tied to them.
I love all of these, each comes with a particular tradition and favorite recipes. Fave beans are traditionally eaten with the fresh percorino cheese which is also just coming into season, in fact many times this is on the Easter menu. Fresh basil . . . well even though tomatoes aren’t in season . . . everyone will tempt fate and try a few of the green house tomatoes with some fresh basil and mozzarella cheese. One of my particular favorites are baby onions – nice and sweet. I like to put them on the table with fresh veggies (carrots, artichokes, red bell peppers and fresh baby onions) along with a nice dish of extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. The perfect happy hour nibbler this and a glass of bubbly prosecco, and I am in heaven.
And just to keep in the theme with green – here is our St. Patrick’s Day favorite picks:

Weekend Excursion included pizza with mozzarella di bufala

Saturday was a beautiful day in Firenze, possibly a bit windy but still sunny and delicious. A hop into town on our motorino and we were strolling along the Arno river admiring the warm rays and the exceptionally low water line.
In town we stopped in at Enoteca / Wine Bar Cantinetta dei Verrazzano for a piece of yummy warm foccacia with artichokes and ham, a glass of wine and a little atmosphere before heading over to the cinema to see the French film “Intouchables”. After a refreshingly fun movie in the late afternoon, our tummies were longing for a good pizza and a glass of beer (or two). So we picked up our motorino and weaved through the streets of Florence. It appears nothing is more difficult then getting into a good pizziarea at 8:30 PM on a Saturday night! Sure there are tons of places – but well, since we were out we wanted something really good not to just settle for any ol’pizza…
We finally left the motorino so we could infiltrate the narrow roads of the city center. I can quite honestly say that we worked up even more an appetite walking from one place to another till we finally just decided to wait it out at our first choice, FLB (Fratelli La Bufala). Two cold beers, Roma beating Palermo in soccer and two hot pizzas later we were “sazia” (happily stuffed). I had a pizza with provolone, anchovies, cherry tomatoes and black olives and he had a Capriciossa…which means that just about anything goes. We didn’t want to exaggerate, however if we did I would have gone for our neighbors starter – a caprese with fresh tomatoes, basil and fried mozzarella!
After a pizza (come Cristo commando) we walked the streets in search of a bit of gelato … for me at least, DH stuck to his cigar. And I gave in and went to Grom. I say I gave in because, I have a hard time imagining how an authentic Italian gelateria can have a name which appears so anglo-saxon. As luck would have it, my timing was perfect and there were no lines AND when I showed just a little indecision (very unusual for me in front of chocolate ice cream) they practically insisted that I taste another 3 flavors before making my final decision. I experimented this time with caffè espresso (very caffè and very little sugar, undecided if I like it) and Crema di Grom (an egg cream base with cookies and chocolate chips).
While making our way back to the motorino (and to brace ourselves for a chilly trip home) we window shopped for shoes and the new collection of leather jackets. Mostly for him, since his B-day is right around the corner and I would like to surprise him.
All in all it was a beautiful night great company, lovely weather, fun film, good food and no cost shopping, it couldn’t have gotten much better – except for the near full moon which illuminated the countryside as we bumped back to our humble abode in Chianti.
