What fun I had in Singapore
Posted by Pierotucci in New Designer Handbags on February 19, 2012
Before setting off on my Seabourn Cruise, we spent a night in wonderful Singapore. We went down to Marina Bay and looked in awe at this incredible feat of architecture, the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. It is the fuselage of a plane perched on top of three sections of hotel. A jazz band was playing, the evening was warm and balmy and my trip of a lifetime had well and truly begun. I only wish I would have gone to the top of this amazing hotel. There is a swimming pool up there and can you just imagine the view? Ah well, next time ……

What do you think of the Furla experiment?
Posted by Pierotucci in New collection on February 6, 2012
Sometimes it is just so much fun to walk through the store and look at all the new models coming in - a little bit of professional window shopping if you may, checking out the competition (their styles, colors and descriptions). We work with so many handbags by Italian designers that every month we have something new on the floor. Personally I window shop in the area where I know that my wallet can afford the sudden impulse to buy – but who doesn’t get a little curious to see what “the other half” buys and I will find myself wandering over to check out some of the other brands. And by other half, I don’t always mean the rich and famous. I mean those handbag fashionistas who know all the latest styles and colors – those who can look at a fake Louis Vuitton and know its a fake. These are the people that I consider the other half. I am the other half, I select my bag on durability, practicality and looks.
Since the majority of our hand bags are made in Italian leather I was just a little shocked to find a bag in rubber among the top brands. Directly from the site:
The Candy Bag – the boston bag launched by Furla last season which immediately became a best seller and an icon of the brand’s innovation and creativity – is now the linchpin for new experimentation: from a series of special editions in highly original materials, including the super-trendy version in rubber and python-print calfskin, to an interpretation by the artist Sissi.
I must admit it reminds me a bit of those Barbie hand bags that they include with a complete outfit which is accessorized with shoes, gloves and handbag, but if you can get over the obvious plastic look to it there are a couple of good points.
It doesn’t loose its shape or color when it gets wets and we all know what a plus that is. The downside is, if you really intend to use this as your everyday handbag, that there are no inner pockets or compartments. That would not be conducive to my perpetually state of un-organization. Personally I like all those little pockets, compartments and dividers to keep my keys away from my lipstick away from my hairbrush and away from my credit cards. But then I guess that is where all those fun accessories come into play.
The new colors that are out for Spring 2012 a wonderful shades of pastel – with light blue, pinks and my favorite color which is called “malt” – I don’t know if my preference falls here because of the similarity with the word malt balls and the images of chocolate that swims before my eyes or if I just really enjoy the warmth of this yellow. A hue that comes across very feminine but extremely versatile with the wardrobe.
Keeping New Year’s Resolutions
Posted by Pierotucci in New Designer Handbags on January 31, 2012
As the end of January is upon us, some of us many starting contemplating those New Year’s resolutions made at a moment of euphoria (many times champagne induced!) I know a lot of my friends do so with an impending dread, a sense of failure and use it as a moment to become depressed, sinking further into a hole of despair.
Personally I like to take the entire month of December and make a list of all the wonderful things that I have accomplished that year, enjoying each accomplishment and how it has changed my life in expected and sometimes unexpected ways. When I do this, I have found that in retrospect there were so many hidden surprises, so many things that I had envisioned but hadn’t stayed mentally alert to their completion or so many things that blossomed in front of me that I didn’t properly acknowledge.
So I normally don’t take the 31 of January as an opportunity to beat myself up for not accomplishing anything – but as a moment to revel in the promises of the New Year – in this case the year of the Dragon. I try to take some time out of my day and envision the wonders of all my New Year Dreaming – looking for all the great signs that confirm I am going in the right direction (even the littlest indication is a point to celebrate and appreciate). I think resolutions should be fun, should be exciting, anticipated with joy and enthusiasm…so no need to make a list of what’s not done but enjoy the thrill of what will be done!
With this in mind I want to share a video that a follow blogger put on line that truly filled me with enthusiasm and inspiration. http://wp.me/p1PcAk-2dn

Every Once and a While a little bit of Nostalgia
Posted by Pierotucci in Out and about in Florence on January 30, 2012
When my Italian friends hear that I am from Miami, they always ask – well what are you doing here? As if to them it were a no brain-er – Florida equals sun and fun equals beach and relax. But we all know that when you “live” somewhere – and that somewhere is also where you work – then you have a tendency to skip over all the fun, sun, beaches and relax. I love Florida with its unique environment between the ocean, the gulf, the swamp, hammocks and everglades. I do miss getting up in the morning and not having to reach for a bathrobe because you will freeze your bum off with the first step out of bed and I miss eating all that good fresh fish. I happened to catch a glace of this video and it just brought it all back.
It’s the same thing with all the Italians that live here in Florence Italy – they have these wonderful landscapes, beautiful artwork, great food and even better wine. So when I tell some one that I live and work in Florence, Tuscany and they say lucky you, (as an expat transplanted here) I just agree with them. I feel very lucky to be living here. In fact every time I go over the Arno river and get a quick glimpse of the Palazzo Signoria and Ponte Vecchio, I am reminded of how god it feels to be living here.

If I had the chance to dress my Italian man . . . it would be a bit like this . . . and I would have just as much fun undressing him ….

Master Craftsman, Marco Galli
Posted by Pierotucci in Florence and its artisans on November 29, 2011
We are very proud of the craftsmen and women who make up our production staff. They do good work and take pride in sending out top quality, handmade leather handbags, bags and accessories. We would like to honor them and their stories in the next few blogs.
Our master craftsman, he has been working with leather for …. well …. let’s just say most of his life without going into numbers. We all like to laugh and say that when Marco started working here he had a head full of hair … but after over 40 years of working here, the stress just wore him down! Though he should be enjoying his retirement, Marco finds the energy to come to work everyday – sometimes to fill in when we need an extra hand and some times to teach the new entries the tricks of the trade. He has worked his way through all the varies phases and is now our go to man when problems arise, we are designing new models or when a special customization requires us to modify a model. Marco has been with Pierotucci for ages – and is a fundamental element of our production team. In the image below you can see him working small pieces of leather in a machine that thins out the edges and makes it easier for the seams to be sewn together. If we ever have any doubts about the product or the leather we simply go to Marco for the answers. To sum up his Pierotucci responsibilities in just a few words: he handles production from start to finish (he decides who cuts the patterns, who preps the pieces, who sews and assembles and he has the final say on quality control questions) … and when he is not acting as production manager he is a huge fan of the Florentine Serie A soccer team . . . and like any good Italian man, flirts outrageously with all the girls.
