Can you still recall those days after graduation, after all the research, interviews, waiting for call backs and the acceptance letter – you finally get hired for your first official job?
And do you remember what the next big step was after you finally landed the job?
Ps: I am not talking about updating your wardrobe!
It’s …….. the first gift that you give yourself to celebrate entering into the business world. I have had my foot in both worlds – both Europe (I was born an Italian) and in the States (but my Mom is an American). So I know there is a variation on the theme here – the American will naturally lean towards a briefcase styled bag but the Europeans look for something a little more personal – the messenger bag.
So, this will be the topic of this week.
Also known as courier bags, most of these bags can be worn on the shoulder or as a cross body bag. They come in all sizes, some are large enough to carry an A4 file and folders, will come with an integrated padded sleeves for your laptop or iPad (for those that do not, we would advise you put your laptop into a sleeve first for added protection) thus making them ideal for work, office, or for everyday use.
A decade ago they were only carried by dispatch riders, who wore them as a cross body bag to leave their hands free to grip the handlebars of their bikes. And when you think about getting to work between hopping a bus, catching the metro or biking to cut down on parking costs – the messenger bag hasn’t really changed all that much, we are always looking for a hands free alternative.
Nowadays most messenger bags tend to be worn over just one shoulder and are becoming a “must have” for the man about town as we all struggle to carry all our gadgets around with us. Where else are you going to put your laptop, camera, e-reader, wallet, mobile phone and keys. Not in your pockets, that is for sure!
Most of these bags are suitable for men and women and are made of various material such as Italian leather, hemp and man-made materials. They make great school bags, fantastic college bags, perfect bags for work and superb bags for everyday use.
What you need to decide is how much you want to spend? What material do you want it to be made of? And what do you want to carry around in it?
Personally I lean towards an all leather bag and I truly don’t mind a canvas strap as long as it is adjustable. It is softer on the shoulder and wears as well . . . if not better than all leather.
For example example 1:
Simplicity and style have merged with this fantastic leather messenger bag from the Toscanella collection. This no fuss leather messenger bag has a full zipper which opens into a single compartment with slots for all the small essentials so you can find them in a hurry. Two open pockets on either side give added versatility to this already superior leather messenger bag. The shoulder strap is adjustable so you can be completely comfortable. Entirely handcrafted out of soft Italian calf leather, you will be spoiled for choice with the wonderful array of eye catching colours truly inspired from the Tuscan countryside.
Or, example number 2 :
The perfect travel companion, this canvas and leather mini-messenger style bag is just the right size to take with you while on-the-go. You will love the flat design as it rests comfortably against your body while the adjustable shoulder strap provides optimal comfort. External cell phone case and zippered pocket are just some of the features this handy little travel canvas and leather messenger bag offers. Hand crafted out of durable canvas and soft Italian calf leather for ultimate longevity. This canvas and leather messenger bag will accompany you on every vacation and outing!
