Black, though the classical color of elegance is not the color that the English ladies seem to reach for when they want to dress up. They look for outfits and accessories in blue – and many times more precisely a midnight blue.
“Blue seems to be the color of choice for the UK ladies when they have a formal occasion,” explains the head designer from the Pierotucci Italian leather workshop. “That is why we’ve added a new color to our Toscanella Collection, to handle the special requests from this market.”
Everything from hats, cars, gloves, dresses and handbags are shades of blue. This color which normally represents peace, trust and loyalty also is the icon for formal events. Men will commonly choose black for any formal event however those who look to step outside of he box will find they can still make a statement whilst wearing midnight blue tailcoats or full evening dress and still fall within the accepted norms.
Woman however, whose dress attire is not as codified as the men’s, can easily express themselves in a variation of ways – from the color of their dress to the color of their accessories. Opera length gloves or a racy hat tilted to the side in bright and unusual colors are not only acceptable but the touch that makes a woman the center of fashion. Add just the right midnight blue handbag to an outfit and you are ready to go.
But accessories don’t have to be only floor length dresses, scarves, ties, hats and handbags – you can also accessorize with cars and flowers, not to mention food and drinks.
Even Coco Chanel said: Elegance does not consist in putting on a new dress.
She probably wasn’t talking about a slice of a delicious purple and blue wedding cake, but you have to admit, it does have it’s own type of elegance.
Not that blue flavored cakes and drinks will guarantee you elegance . . . but the will certainly get you noticed!
